My 20 year old son and I went to the range today with his brand new charcoal-blue fluted-cylinder Uberti 1860 Army .44 that I gave him for Christmas. Man can that thing shoot! He wound up with an 84x100 the first time he fired it. :shocked2: And that's on the infamous B-19 Target! The smiles were worth every penny that I spent.

He had never fired that model prior to today, and had had some trouble in the past with his 1858 New Model Army needing to be aimed low and away :( . So being that I had shot 2 examples of that model already and did quite well with them, I'd figured that his shooting (and therefore fun with the "Old Man") would improve!

I can't wait to "borrow" it while he's away at college :haha:

We used our standard load of 25 grains of Goex 3Fg, a pre-lubed wonderwad, and a .454 Hornady ball. Stock nipples did well with Remington #10 caps.

It's so nice to be with him and watch him have fun with black powder

Yeah, temps hit 38 and hardly any wind here yesterday...today it's snowing again, so yesterday was the day to try it!

I actually got to put four balls through it too! Got 2-10's, 1-9, 1-8 all from 25 yards.

Between the two of us we fired it 30 times without a single hitch, and the cylinder wasn't binding yet! So we're very satisfied!

Anybody else get any offspring out to the range after Christmas?? Grandkids??

Dave

Hats off to you & your son, I enjoy those moments with my gradson he's 23 now. But we've shot together since he was 10.

Congrats to you as well!

Teaching the offspring about the fun of black powder is the only way to keep this wonderful sport of ours alive  .

And thanks for sharing!

I had one also, a very nice revolver, its my favorite replica. I now have an old Army in SS which i like alot better, though it is not a replica of anything, it shoots great. I heard they quit making them.

They stopped making them over a year ago now.

I have passed-up several already. Not sure why, but the fact that they were never made in the 1800's might have something to do with it!

I've let a few Colt and Remingtons go, but I'll never get rid of my ROAs. They just shoot so darn good.

So far as our League goes, the '60 Army is the top scorer. From 50 yards shooting strong-hand only I was in the ten ring with consistency. That's with an out-of-the-box Uberti 1860 Army. One more range session with that revolver and I'll make NRA Expert for the Qualification Matches that my club holds. It's not just me either, as the club's League Chairman also has had the same results with the same model gun.

ROA's are a fine tough breed. I haven't had enough experience shooting one to figure if I'd spend close to $500.00 for one. Now that they aren't made anymore, prices have gone skyward for pristine examples. Don't get me wrong, IF I shot one long enough to fall in love, then I'd have to own one myself! Have a great time with yours and make smoke!
