This is my 61 Springfield, made in 1864. Unfortunately it had significant rust when I got it. I wanted to restore it without taking away from it's natural patina so I threw it in my electrolysis tank for an overnight bath and it did just the trick. Just rubbed it down with some 0000 steel wool after to shine it up a bit. My main objective was to get the old nipple off, and that was achieved as can be seen in the photo, but it also revealed all the hidden markings I couldn't see before. Very happy with how it came out!

Great job! Can we see more pics of the entire gun please?
Here you go. The one is a screenshot of what it looked like on the site I bought it. The whole thing was completely rusted, the electrolysis did a great job of preserving it I think

Bravo!

Now go find someone who shoots in the North - South Skirmish Association and who also has a set of barrel pin gauges and have them check the diameter of the bore. Buy cast Minies and size them to 0.002" under that bore size, then use from 50 to 60 grains FFg, going up sloooow in 2-grain increments, and you'll have a 1-ragged-hole shooter @ 50-yards ... like I do!
