As bad as California is, there are no restrictions on the buying and selling of muzzle loaders. It's as easy to buy a muzzleloading gun as it is to buy a pair of shoes.
Do us all a favor and don't promote fear, uncertainty, and doubt.

Having both purchased and sold antique and newer made muzzleloaders to folks in CALIFORNIA, my experience has been that the laws vary from one district to another. In one area they are without restrictions while in another they are treated as modern firearms and require transfer by FFL.
Unfortunately since the ATF now expects the SELLER to know what laws apply to the buyer and will happily prosecute the SELLER for sending a pre-1899 or muzzleloader into such areas directly to the buyer, that is where the issue lies. Having the buyer simply assure you that no such laws apply does NOT protect the buyer in anyway.
I no longer send anything to CA, IL or any other state that doesn't recognize a pre-1899 or muzzleloading firearm as exempt from FFL transfers.
Sending a exempt firearm to an address in CA where it would be a legal transfer but to a buyer who lives in a FFL only transfer area ( send it to my friend or relative and I'll pick it up there instead) makes you compliant in a "straw purchase", which is also a felony.
Just my 2 cents.

I have lived all over California and I have never even HEARD of any restrictions on muzzleloaders. I am in Norcal now, but I have lived in the LA/Orange County area pretty recently and never heard about any requirements for them to go through an FFL anywhere in the state. If you or anyone else knows anything I don't I really want to know. I haven't even heard about any attempts to restrict them here, and I try to keep up on state weapon laws.

I'd sure like to know where this has occurred because I've been buying guns in California for close to 50 years and have never seen or heard of such a thing.

And there's no reason to even bring up the ATF because Muzzleloading firearms are not regulated by the feds.

Again, more FUD.

Eight states allow individual towns/cities to pass their own gun safety laws. They are HI, CA, CO, IL, NY, NJ, MA, and CT.
Okay, so now that you've chimed in with this, why don't you tell us where in California muzzle loaders are regulated. I'd really like to know. Because if they're not regulated in the greater Los Angeles area or the Bay area, the rest of the state, believe it or not, is a pretty solid red.
