Does anyone have any pet loads for a short (24")Bbl .62 smoothbore flinter

Spud, What I like to use is simply 60 grains of FFg under a charge of shot measured with a 70 grain powder measure. How much shot that really is I'm not sure but I think it's about 1 1/8th ounces. For wads I often use two of the thin over-shot wads down over the powder and one more wad over the shot. That keeps things simple and it does seem to work. Le Grand

Rebel, Thanks for the help. Those weights are so simple maybe I can remember 'em. Le Grand

Check out Bob Spencer's site for a lot of good info on loading and shooting:

As the now proud owner of a smoothbore this will be downright handy. Thanks for posting the link.I'd forgotten how informative that fellas'site is...

Read the stuff in V.M. Starr's article found at Bob Spenser's Black Powder Notebook.

He suggest starting with 2 drams( 55 grains) with 3/4 oz. of shot, and working up from there. I would not load more than 2 3/4 drams of powder in any 20 gauge gun, because, as Starr says, you are just wasting powder and shot.
