For those who do not shoot/hunt out of a bag when using .62cal PRBs, you know there's not any commercially available .62cal "Pocket Reloaders".

A few years ago former owner of October Country (John Shorb) sent me two pieces of PVC pipe in the photo below as an example of what he uses as .62cal pocket reloaders.

He uses a piece of wax paper held in place with a rubber band so a speedy reload could be made by driving all the components down through the wax paper at once.

I decided to use ”˜muzzle mitts’ (finger cots) since I actually use them on my muzzles, I don’t make fast reloads so quickly that I don't have time to slide off the muzzle mitt, and they're more durable than wax paper...so here are the specs and how I use them.

PVC Pipe with 7/16” ID (Inside Diameter)
2.5” - 3.5” long
Slightly bevel the inside of the mouth on each end

Circle Fly Over Shot card as separator in the middle (optional)
Patched ball in from one end
Powder charge in from the other side
Seal powder charge end with ”˜Muzzle Mitt’

1) Roll off the ”˜Muzzle Mitt’ and hold momentarily for later use
2) Pour powder charge and position that end on muzzle
3) Start patched ball (and O/S card separator)
4) Seat patched ball
5) Install ”˜muzzle mitt’ (or not)

CORRECTION:

INSIDE DIAMETER IS 5/8".....NOT 7/16".

If a friendly moderator would like to go into my original post and replace the 7/16" with 5/8", then delete this correction post, I'd appreciate it.

What is nominal size of pipe?

Have you thought about using a pipe cap held by friction (not glued) instead of the finger mits? The mitts Look like a condom to me looking at your picture.

Another thought would be to use saran wrap and the rubber bands. Probably would not tear as easy as wax paper.

I have a .62 and you have given me a point to start from.

Thanks,

Clutch

Don't know what the original ID was as he slightly drilled them out...said a 5/8" drill bit would probably work fine, but he actually used a 41/64" drill bit to ensure a thick patch / ball combo would still be able to slide OK.
The OD is 27/32" if that'll help identify it at a building supply place.

No...they are 'finger cots'...an inexpensive version of what are sold as 'muzzle mitts'...and since I use them on my muzzles, it's handy to have it right there in my hand when loading the rifle.

As I mentioned, the wax paper (saran wrap, etc) didn't interest me all that much as I don't make a hasty reload...the deer is either down in sight and it's not needed, or it's bolted past some trees/brush and a quick second shot is not possible anyway...so after a shot, I take my time, thoroughly clean / relube the bore, thoroughly clean the lock with an an alcohol wipe, etc...then make a fresh reload.
