Had a friend and his son over tonight, my shooting pard really,
showed him how to"run ball", they produced about 150 .50's in short order.(caught on real quick!)

there was a saying about a man and fishing, I think we all know it, but I put a new twist to it....
give a man some roundball and he will shoot for the day, show a man how to run ball and he will never buy store bought again!

gave him a little ball bag as well for xmas!

Brett,

I think it goes like this:
Give a man some r/balls and he'll shoot for a day.

Show a man how to cast balls and he'll want to borrow your mold. :hmm:

Keep up the good work!

Excellent Brett! I bet you three had a great time. This is something that I definately want to add to my skills; have to put a .530 mold on my "to get" list.

I got a ladle, a real antique, so that's not a problem. Got some lead, I think it was a window weight, but I don't know how pure it is. Will have to test it...

Good on ya Brett. Jerry Willis did just that for me years ago and I was hooked that day on ball casting. Mike Nesbitt gave me a ball bag and I have been making those ever since.

Not only learned the skills, but fondly remember my friends who gave me the start.

I've read stories about getting a late night invite for an early hunt the next day. No Balls and the store is close? No problem! Go outside and cast up a dozen balls or so. What it really took was one day one of the old timers told my wife how much cheaper it was to shoot by casting my own. BINGO! Shopping spree was on. I bought a LEE Production Pot IV and a couple fo LEE molds. Been casting ever since. Never a problem with this equipment, during the last 15 years. The money you save by casting, not to mention to satisfaction of casting your own. Always better when it's the wife's idea. :rotf:

I showed him real good....production pot IV and cast pot with the ladel. got him turning out good ball with the lee furnace and a 2 cavity 50 mold while I cast 40's one at a time with the ladle.
His son used bothsetups and I explained the skim, stir, mold warm up, where to hit, how to open and cut sprues ect.Only rejected about 7 balls, they got it real quick!

Dang, I love this addiction!
