I'm almost done inletting the barrel and tang on my Vincent Ohio rifle, and it looks like the lock bolt is going to go through the breech lug. Is the lock bolt supposed to go through the breech lug? Is this something that is desireable? I'm thinking that this would help tie everything together, but then again, it might put more stress on the lock plate. Any information/comments would be appreciated.

Yes, the lock bolt normally goes through the breech lug. Just be sure you do in fact drill the lug, and not the barrel.

It is normal to drill thru the the lug behind the barrel. After you get it drilled & the lock bolts in, you remove the barrel & drill same hole in lug to about 1/16" to 1/8" larger dia. hole to relieve that bolt so there is no stress on the bolt. Failure to do so could stress the lockplate bolt & possibly make the lockplate move & split the lock inlet at the rear of the lock inlet.

Thanks for the advice. I was wondering about slotting the hole in the breech lug to relieve the stress on the lock. Now I know.
