When doing my initial research for variations of a Hawken full stock, I came across this alternative to using the traditional two lock bolts from the off side of the lock panel. Took me a while to get my mind wrapped around the process and it initially cost me a main spring and lock plate. My first attempt failed because I didn't precisly measure the location for the screw. Drilled through the lock right into the head of the main spring. Got it right this time.
The screw is a 6-40 out of an old lock. I needed to dressed it down to the right length. It's tapped into a flat on the breech tang. The result is a lock that is really tight against the side flat of the barrel and the opposite panel is now ripe for some creative decoration or inlay absent the heads of the usual through bolts. BTW, the screw doesn't interfere with the hook on the barrel breech and there isn't any of the finessing drilling a front bolt hole trying to hit that web of wood between the RR channel and the bottom flat of the barrel inlet.
