As we we walk through this hustle and bustle of everyday mayham we call modern life something sparks a memory of a good time at camp. A sight sound or smell brings back a rush of memory of one special time in the past. Let us know one of yours. A week ago on a Saturday Morning I had gotten up at my usual 5:00 and went out to the front step for a smoke. I opened the front door to be greeted by a warm morning and a gentle rain. As I sat on the steps listening to the rain and smelling the freshness this memory came to me:
It was one of the last years the Eagle Creek Rendezvous was held at Murphy's Landing. As usual I awoke at my usual time threw on my skins, capote, and headed up to Two Eagles Kitchen to enjoy morning coffee with Doyle and the other early risers. After an hour or so of coffee and braggin I headed back to my lodge where I knew I would find My wife still sleeping. As I was walking back a few rain drops starting falling. I got back to my lodge, a Don Strinz 14x14 officers tent, stepped inside, and threw a couple oak logs into the Three dog to take the chill out. The rain started comming down a little harder but still a slow gentle rain. I grabbed the book I was presently reading and slipped into bed next to my wife. I could feel the warmth from her and that coming from the stove. As I lay there reading, warm, and comfortable, the sound of rain drops on the canvas roof, and the slight smell of wood smoke in the air, and the sound of talking and laughter coming from nearby camps I knew there was no better hobby than this, and no better way to spend ones free time. I remember the sound of my book hitting the floor beside the bed as I closed my eyes for one of the best "naps" I have had in a long time. Peaceful warm and content.
