From replies and private messages I've received, it appears some members either don't understand or don't like it when I make a post that says simply 'btt', so I'll explain what that means and why I've been doing it recently.
'btt' means 'back to top', or 'bump to top'. It's just a way to bump a thread back to the top of the list to give it more exposure time on the first page of threads. You could also write just 'bump'. Since the program won't allow you to enter a post with no text, anything will work (you could even write 'double cheeseburger' if you wanted to). But 'btt' is just a simple text message for a post that's nothing more than a 'thread bumper'.
I'm in the process of moving a large number of threads around because of the new category changes (you can read the reasons for these changes here ). The system default is to show only those threads that have had posts within the last three months. Longer than that and they become invisible, unless you go to the bottom of the screen and change the dates that will show. Many of the threads I'm moving to other categories are more than three months old, so when I move them, I add a 'btt' reply just to move it to the top of the list to give it initial exposure in it's new section. Otherwise, it would be buried within other old threads in the new section and no one would probably notice it. This is assuming that most people don't change the 'dates shown' and only read the newer stuff. My reasoning is that some people viewing the other sections who normally never pay attention the Pre-Flintlock stuff might become interested and add to the conversation (even though it's an old thread) if they suddenly see these new threads in that section. Most people wouldn't see them if they were simply re-buried in another pile of old invisible threads in a different section. If no one adds anything to it and it goes down the list like normal as it gets older, that's fine. I'm just giving each thread a fair chance at exposure to it's new audience in it's new category.
I haven't done this with all the old threads that I've moved because some members apparently are becoming irritated with me for doing it, so you'll have to look around to see some of the older ones. But I did 'bump' some of them when I moved them, mostly those placed in the two new sections (Cannon and Pre-Flintlock Wars), and a few others of interesting topics that I thought members in other sections who don't normally view Pre-Flintlock topics might appreciate seeing.
So when you see a thread suddenly appear with the last reply saying nothing more than 'btt', now you know what it means and why it's there. You can make a new reply to it if the topic interests you and you wish to revive the conversation, or you can simply ignore it.
