I have finished this fowler. It is the first one I have built. I did a little carving on the tang, lock area, but it didn't come out that well.
O well that's how you learn. You can't learn if you aint' cutting and building.
I wanted a walnut stock, which is more typical of New England.
It's a 28 gage 42" oct to round and has an L&R fowler lock.
I think I left the lock pannels a little big. I was sure I took them right down, but the pictures show them pretty big.
I also browned it. I know it's not PC, but this is how it would look after a couple of hundred years.
I can't wait that long

Very nice! I agree with previous - looks very authentic and I like the carving.

Nice gun!
What brand fo barrel is on it?
Where did you get your hardware?

thanks for the kind words.
The "kit" came from Jack Garner. The parts are mostly his, execpt for the ones that I "fouled" up and needed to replace
I wanted walnut and a slighty smaller bore, because It's just a target gun/weapon not a hunting gun.
What do you call a smooth bore? it's not a rifle and I hate to call it a gun.
You know;
It's hard to post pictures of your work to the world, but what the heck.
If you see something that isn't right, I would appricate any feedback. I plan on being around for a while and hate to make the same misstakes over again.
It's like in Shumways book, when he talks about building a few rifles " and they just weren't right"
I am not looking to get slamed, but advise from the proffessional builders is always welcome.
