Very nice! I have a question... Was the interior pocket sewn into the prepunched holes on the back piece, or did you punch new holes for the pocket to be attached to? If the pocket was sewn into the original holes in the back, did the pocket get in the way of the welt?

Is my question clear as mud? :idunno:

Correct, I always used the back panel holes instead of making a whole new set of holes for the pocket. It's always worked for me, never ran into any problems although you would think it would cause the sides to be really thick and stiff. Doesn't seem to matter. Only thing is the layers can be a pain sometimes as your sewing through the panel, welt, pocket and the front panel finishing up.

GREAT looking bag and an excellent step by step pictorial.

Can I ask a kinda dumb question? Is a fowler bag a fowler bag simply because its used in conjunction with a fowler?

It sounds good! :haha: I made it for a smoothbore really is all. It is different from the bags I usually make and I had to call it something lol. :idunno:

I like purty much everything about it. Really like the straps of leather and cloth. Great coloring too. Nice!

Nah, it's a STOOPID bag, no good fer NUTHIN'. Awright Awright, YES it's a beautiful bag YES every detail of the bag looks great YES it's a perfect size for a fowling bag YES you're one helluva great craftsman! Do your hats still fit? What can I say, Swamp Fox, I love it, you've done it once again, and this was a completely NEW design, too. That says a lot right there. I'm just mad because I'm too dumb to make one of my own! But you did post some great instructions in case I ever want to try. That was a really kind thing to do, and I'm sure a LOT of folks will benefit from it and appreciate it. It's not often a craftsman will share his secrets.

Spotted Bull, I always like a fowler bag to be a little bigger than a regular bag because you've got more stuff to tote; wads, cards, shot, prb's, you know, all the stuff you need to feed your gun, which is more than you need for a rifle.

That's my reasoning, anyhow, and it works for me.

Very nice looking bag, I have tried to make a couple. they didnt turn out like that. Thanks for the step by step pics. Maybe my next bag will be nicer.

Swampy, you really have some talent. That's a mighty handsome bag; can't wait to see it with your horn and your new smoothie. Great buckles and another fabulous strap from Lynn.
That three-prong hole punch sure looks like a pious idea. I've been using a marking wheel and a diamond awl on my stuff and that often gives me extra opportunities to screw up!
