Any idea what weapons was used for this famous duel?

I see reference to large caliber flintlock pistols, but nothing specific...

Wednsday, July 11th, 1804 - 7:00 AM
Aaron Burr versus Alexander Hamilton
The seconds were William P Van Ness (Burr) and Nathaniel Pendleton (Hamilton)

1 exchange

Hamilton is hit in the side and dies the next day...

They are in the Smithsonian. Muzzle Loader did an article on them only a few months ago.

.56 Caliber smoothbores owned by a fellow named John Barker Church. Now owned by Chase Manhattan Bank. One of the pair also used to kill Hamilton's son at the same spot in Weehawken, NY in another duel.

I can't help it, I think the dog ate my book!!

The pics are good but they are of only one of the pistols. One of the set was converted to percussion during the Civil War. The brass forends are for balance.

It's a good thing one of you guys listened to me and bought a book!!! We'd be looking for those pictures all night if Stumpkiller hadn't been paying attention!
