Allen Santa Fe Hawken

I have an Allen Santa Fe Hawken that I purchases in the early to mid 80s. It’s a great rifle. I took it out of my safe the other day to shoot and found the stock is broken through the wrist. I am looking at stocks at T.O.W. And am wondering if anyone might know what locks were used on these rifles and if it might match other lock plates? I’m even considering restocking in their Hawken fullstock even though it’s a percussion. But to get it ready for my son to shoot sooner rather than later I’ll probably stick with the half stock.

Your best bet would be to get a stock that doesn't have the lock, triggers, butt plate, etc. pre-inlet--just the barrel channel cut and the ramrod hole drilled.

The Uberti Hawken lock (Uberti made the Allen Santa Fe Hawken) is a copy of the old Cherry Corners and Ithaca Hawken lock, neither of which are available today. Therefore, I don't think any of the commercial stock shapers offer a pre-shaped stock with the correct lock mortise.

Your quickest solution, and possibly cheapest, would be to have the original stock professionally repaired.

Agree with plmeek. At the time, the Cherry Corners locks were the most authentic Hawken lock available. You could get a stock blank with the lock not inlet. As Phil suggested, you should first find a good builder to professionally repair the stock.

Thanks, that’s what I had figured. I can repair the stock no problem, I have repaired stocks before, but figured it wouldn’t hurt to get a new stock. Th only thing keeping this stock together is the tang an trigger guard lol. I have used both rawhide and a tin wrap to cover up the glue lines and screws. I will probably repair it just for the heck of it but if me son or his wife shoot it I want it to be a sure thing and not a repair.
