i bought my jackie brown 20 smoothie last fall and have gone through four pounds of powder. I can't believe how much fun these things are. I don't even have much desire to bring out my conventional shotgun and rifle. My accuracy is definitely improving. I'm growing to this gun the way a good pair of levi jeans grow on ya. can't wait for opening dove - anyone else got the itch?

I know what you mean! I have burnt 3 pounds of powder so far and my shoulder is permantly NUMB!
I have been to the range every day that isnt raining....need more powder, need more flints, need morecaps, need more time at the RANGE!!!
Aint life GRAND?

Can't wait. Been breaking clay with either the 14ga. or 16ga. percussion. I was ready to work up a load for the 20ga. SxS flinter, but duh, I forgot to get cards and cushions for it. I am working hard to have the 16ga. SxS flinter ready at least while the season is on. Hunting with shotguns is a much missed activity. I think it is an absolute ball!

Not shooting enough is a given axiom of this sport. Too much shooting is an oxymoron.

Depends on who you ask. I spend a lot of time at the range but still haven't worked up a load for the 10 ga double. Definately going to use it on Sept 1 dove opener. GW

:hatsoff: I recently completed building a 20 gauge smooth bore flint fowler from a bunch of good parts, lot's of assembly and no instructions: Chambers large Siler lock, Oregon Barrel Works barrel, precarved curly-maple stock, iron furniture with a silver front bead. Haven't taken a picture yet as I've been shooting and cleaning it. Benched it last week for PrB trials, out to 50 yards it shoots like it's rifled, makes me wonder why we need those new-fangled things.
Went to a rondy this past weekend with the Tioga Mountain Men, great bunch with a very nice trade-gun trail.I'm pumped up now this gun is going hunting this fall for real meat. No misfires and it hit's where I keep it pointed. Need to work on follow-thru when shooting clay birds. The percussion guns will stay home more now. This is true simplicity and addictive. Just need to have time to see if improvements can be made in the loads, Prb and shot. Shooting 70 grains FFg, .010" patch, .600 Round ball, shoots to the sights. Shooting 70 grs FFg, 1 OP wad, no cushion wad, 1 oz of #4 shot, and 1 OS wad. Haven't pattered it yet but the hill-side behing the thrown birds didn't show much spread after missing the clay bird. Should be very good for turkey if we just had some handy! :v

I was at the Tioga Rondy too. A fella stopped and talked to us as we were sitting by the vans. I had a green hunters frock coat hanging up for sale. Was that you by chance?

 If that masked man had a big grin and a white beard it was me. I am interested in the frock if you still have it. From previous posts I see that we may have had some similar guns and interests. I'm sorry that I didn't get back to you about the frock. Got busy shooting, had to do the perc trailwalk, now I see why it should be done early in the day. Couldn't find some of the shadowed targets and then lost the front sight. Still did well but need to get a hawk & knife to throw. I really love the trade gun, mine shoots better than I do. Just have to get "follow thru" ingrained, it's easy to get bad habits with quicker ignition. If you still have the frock I can be e-mailed to work it out? :)

Countin the days...got a line on a good dove shoot for the first time in years...Flintlock and 7.5's for me...

I got my B. Christian fowler around the 1st part of June and I just finished shooting my 5th pound of powder and I have shot about 1/2 lb out of my 6th can. I ordered 10 lbs from Graf's and would be surprised if I have more than about 4 lbs when I go home in Oct.
