:hatsoff: I recently completed building a 20 gauge smooth bore flint fowler from a bunch of good parts, lot's of assembly and no instructions: Chambers large Siler lock, Oregon Barrel Works barrel, precarved curly-maple stock, iron furniture with a silver front bead. Haven't taken a picture yet as I've been shooting and cleaning it. Benched it last week for PrB trials, out to 50 yards it shoots like it's rifled, makes me wonder why we need those new-fangled things.
Went to a rondy this past weekend with the Tioga Mountain Men, great bunch with a very nice trade-gun trail.I'm pumped up now this gun is going hunting this fall for real meat. No misfires and it hit's where I keep it pointed. Need to work on follow-thru when shooting clay birds. The percussion guns will stay home more now. This is true simplicity and addictive. Just need to have time to see if improvements can be made in the loads, Prb and shot. Shooting 70 grains FFg, .010" patch, .600 Round ball, shoots to the sights. Shooting 70 grs FFg, 1 OP wad, no cushion wad, 1 oz of #4 shot, and 1 OS wad. Haven't pattered it yet but the hill-side behing the thrown birds didn't show much spread after missing the clay bird. Should be very good for turkey if we just had some handy! :v
