I am thinking of making the patchbox on RCA 42. I have never seena another one like it. How would yall go about building it. I have thought about modifying a bucks co. Box. But somthing tells me it won't turn out well.

Could you post a picture of what your wanting to make, and a picture of what your thinking of making it from?

This gun had a separate rolled hinge soldered to the lid and the other half of the hinge screws into the wall of the box cavity. So, you would need to roll hinges and cut the knuckles, make the lid cover then solder the two together.

Because of the way the hinge was made on #42, the builder added a miniscule trough in the wood on the hinge side, as when the lid is fully open, the lid edge wants to dig into the wood. Later side openers avoided that by rolling the hinge knuckles as part of the lid.
