Enclosed is a couple of images that shows a gun which has another use .It is what is called a walking stick percussion smoothbore gun in small calibre and used by Victorian collectors of small birds and animals what we know has a taxidermist.

These collectors needed a small bore gun that would kill a small bird but not blow it to bits so this is how they came to be made. This type of gun was also used has a walking stick and was later carried through to the breech loading period and made in larger bore sizes

Many years ago, a friend found a Day's Patent cane gun in a barrel is a thrift shop. Pop out trigger was broken off. Made a replacement, was amazed when the new trigger worked properly.

Very interesting piece!

I imagine they put some kind of Tompion in the muzzle when walking with it?

When you mention small bore is it something like 28 or 32 bore, or even smaller than that?

Is it possible the tompion would have incorporated the ramrod?
The hard wood plug with a steel tip is held in the barrel muzzle by a V spring of 3 inches long . The end of this spring which is angled so it slides into the muzzle ,has for a ramrod attachment to the plug I have never come across one so I think this would be carried separate.

Not firearm, but I have an air cane. Faux cane finish, missing the hand knob. And the pump. Made a little key to cock the action; button trigger pops out when the action is cocked. Haven't tested the reservoir to see if it will hold a charge of compressed air.
