And here is the skinner I made....

I made this skinning knife by forgeing 1084 high carbon steel letting the forging marks and heat treating color reamin on the blade. The handle is 100 year old moose antler palmation held in place with hide glue and brass pins. I wrapped a piece of elk raw hide around the handle. The rawhide is almost transparent from being so tight on the handle.

The sheath is also made from elk rawhide. The fringe is brain tanned bucksin and sewed with hemp. The elk tooth is mounted in sinew and hide glue and hung in place with sinew.

Ive been interested in the fur trade in our history for many years. Im a real greenhorn newbie on this site so if Im talking to much just tell me to shut up for awhile.

Howdy Skinniers, Is any one out in camp that makes knives that might want some old horseshoeing rasps to make knives out of or just want or need a horseshoeing rasp. They work good for stock making also. I have used them for years making my custom rifles still sharp to a point. I can't seem to make the Photo site work for me so I can't put any pics. on the forum but if any one wants some pics. just email me and I can email pics. to you. Thank.

Man Joe, you do nice work, I have a knife I made from a old piece of saw blade I reshaped it with file's and hacksaw and it's sharp enough to shave the hair off your arm. I'll try to post some pics. Joe
