Yeah , I'm using a piece of railroad track now and its served me well , works great. All I forge is triggers and trigger guards , and the rare Fusil buttplate but thats about to end , son the anvil is actually over kill ... Thieves do worry me as well ... rotten suckers . Who knows , just not sure if I'll keep it and branch out my blacksmithing a bit or sale it to make some $ ... time will tell . Not having a woman now I can probably just keep it ! and my trade gun ! Ain't eatin nothin !! LOL !!I got lucky at a yard sale and found a nice 8” long section of railroad track- that had been machined down FLAT, only $5! I sold my old anvil , too heavy to move around, and I can remove my railroad track anvil from the stump and lock it in the shed. Neighbor lost a huge 300 pound anvil to thieves, he thought no one would want to lift it! Never underestimate the power of METH!!
That's what I need is a little one, the old railroad iron would do nicely. However put me down as envious of your real one.Lets hope you don't give yourself a hernia with it.
Thanks bud . Yeah , all the anvils ive gotten in the past had the edges just ruined and I had to weld them up and reshape them , this one has barely any bad spots at all , pretty darn nice shape ! Quite surprised ! Im tickled with her
Shes a dandy . Funny thing . I was at docs two weeks ago , had an MRI , he said I had two hernias right now ! I had no clue !!! You van have hernias and not know it ?! Apparently !! .Funny , I forgot about the hernias yesterday , that was dumb, but I was all excited and such yesterday , taking her home and moving her around. Can't believe shes only 150 pds! Man , I'm gettin weak !
As a former truck driver I never worried about lifting anything until it got over 125lbs. now at 79 yrs old I struggle with a 40 lb. bag of dog food! Old = Sucks!
She’s in good shape especially for that age. My anvil is dished and the edged are chipped. I’m afraid I’ll have go buy a new anvil to get one in that good of shape.

Yeah , I was surprised in its condition.. They are usually all beat up here in S. Ohio ....some d@mn kids find them after grandpa has passed and beat the with hammers ...pretty typical. So happy with this anvil !
Sad but true ...ive asked all the folks around d here and all I get are vague responses ... " There's a mine over by Shawnee ..." , there's a mine over near New Lex ..." So ....I'm supposed to go over there and just drive around for awhile ? When I lived in Vinton county ya drove drove the back roads and there were mounds of coal everywhere , I just filled my 5 gal. buckets and drove off , didnt cost anything . I went to the mine down there once and they got mad at me cause all I wanted was 4 buckets full of coal !! LOL !

LOL !! Meetin a lady blacksmith would be great ! Naw , the women always whine about needin money and my heart starts to workin on me and I end up selling my equipment to.make em happy . Has happened every time . Funny thing .... the standing joke at coffee time each morning ...a pretty lady will walk by and the fellers will say " The new forge is in trouble !! "
