Dry balled my new to me custom flintlock yesterday on the 2nd shot. Was so impressed with the coned muzzle I set a greased patch on top and pushed a ball in with my thumb and then rammed it home. Primed the pan and handed the gun to my brother who experienced a flash in the pan. Then I couldn't recall measuring powder for that shot  . Worked some #4 thru the touch hole and he sent it merrily down range. Still better than the time I doubled two .58 Minie balls in a Parker Hale Musketoono_O. Being human more screw up are in the future I'm sure😅. With my Whitworth my charges are in glass vials and vial count is always checked to be one less than bullet count before seating the bullet. Don't want to try and worm a super hard linotype bullet out of it.

Last week I put two dry loads down the barrel in four shots. (Do you know how long it takes to get enough powder through the touch hole to punch a 225-grain ball out the muzzle?)

Both times the rangemaster had come over to ask me about my rifle while I was running wet patches down the barrel between shots, and I lost concentration.

Much as I hate to admit it. We are human beings not robots. We make mistakes no matter how hard we try not to.

Always keep a TOTW Pointy ball screw on my 3/16" home made range rod. Never know when this old man will dry ball a rifle. As it is said" S_it happens.
