For sale is an antique named New England Musket or Fowler from about 1830-1840.

The maker is Larkin Mason Leland of Augusta Maine. He was the nephew (and I believe apprentice) of Lemuel Leland, a gunmaker from Sherborn MA, who was in turn the apprentice to Thomas Holbrook (a revolutionary war gunmaker from MA). This seems to be made in an earlier style, so probably from the beginning of his career, sometime around the late 1830s or 1840s. Unfortunately it's missing the lock (I think it was originally a Ketland trade lock), but I do have a L&R Lock that I could throw in to the sale too (pictured) for those that are interested.

The barrel measures 42in, overall length is 57in. Length of pull is 13 1/4in. Seems to be about 60cal. All brass furniture, including a brass trigger. I'm not sure exactly what type of wood it is, but looks like Cherry to me (I could be way off though).
Markings on the barrel are:

D.S.
L.M LELAND
AUGUSTA

I intended to restore this myself, but have way too many projects right now!

Asking $395 OBO.
I'm happy to provide ant further photos or answer questions.

how much for it without the lock? very interested
Hi,

I was actually asking $395 OBO for the gun as is, and the lock would be about $150 extra (I figured some people might want to use an original lock or a percussion lock - it just so happens that this one fits, so I thought I'd add it into the listing)... but price for both is negotiable! I'll consider offers - I'll just be happy to see someone bring it back to good use - it's been sitting on my shelf for years!
