I posted this down the board in percussion, but on second thot, smoothbore might be more to the point.
A lady who works with my wife, learning of my firearms fascination, said she had a dirty ol' wallhanger and asked if I'd like to see it. Of course I volunteered to clean it up, etc. I know something about Civil War military percussion pieces, but this is clearly civilian, and predates the CW. Here's what I wrote up for my files. Anybody tell me just what it is?
