I friend brought this over a few years ago. I think it's a 54, but I never checked it. And I think he said it was hanging over a fireplace in his grandfather's hunting cabin. It's hard to believe the wood is in decent shape compared to the pitted barrel, but I know he and another guy did some work to it.

I just ran into these pics on my 'puter and thought I'd see if anyone has any info or has seen one before. It seems to have an inordinate amount of inlaying. First time for me seeing a tang that comes to a point.

Nice, whatever it is. Sure has a lot of furniture on it.

What would be the reason for the oval brass on the top of the stock just aft of the tang? My Crocket rifle has one of those too.

I have seen initials engraved on them not unlike the oval on the bottom of a stock on a fine shotgun, but that might not be the real reason. They were more common on pistols, especially cased pairs.

Saw several at the Cody Museum gun displays

The barrel pitting looks like its been stored in high humidity or near salt ocean air. It also could have been restocked long ago and the but the rust staining on the wood may say original to me. Nice piece and really like the flask.

should add it looks like an interesting repair area just in front of the drum/lock
