Simple quick question, that has probably been asked before on this forum many times. Do any of you left handed shooters - shoot right handed flintlocks, and if so, does it bother you?

I am considering a Pedersoli flint in .32 . .I shoot a RH Traditions, Crockett percussion, now, no problem . .and I have a LH Lyman GPR flinter .. . just wondering if I could shoot a regular RH flint rifle w/o problem.

Thanks !

Second hand info, but my brother in law shoots my flinters fairly often, and he's a southpaw. He has commented that it's a harrying experience. Regardless, he is a very good shot.

I'll ask him if there's any particular advice he'd pass on.

I have shot a handful of RH flinters and I'm a southpaw. Never had a problem. My two personal flinters are left hand but my percussion are rights. I say go for it!

I have left and right.
It can bug me sometimes more than other.

By the by, received a .50 Renegade flinter barrel rebored to .52 with a fast/medium twist for paper patching. Looking forward to seeing how much that one bothers me!

I have been shooting both sides since 1978. Never had a problem. Right handed guns have a bigger market for resale. You have to be aware of where the touch hole is pointed or you tummy might get tattooed if it goes off accidentally. I got mine shooting a right handed gun without a sear spring. The upside is that your nose blocks part of the flash.

Im a left and tried rh flinters, not my cup of tea. Tried a rh flinter stocked lh was slightly better but again not my cup of tea.

Thanks guys . . the first flint I ever shot was a Right Hander . . . I only shot it once, but it didn't bother me.

I own a lot of guns . . . WW2 as well as modern hunting and I have my favorites, many for sentimental reasons of great hunts, historic importance, etc. . but I don't think there's anything more "fun" to shoot than my .50 flintlock. The M1 Garand is close on the last shot as the clip goes "bling" . . . but that's about the only thing I think that comes close.

I am looking to replace the Crockett with a Pedersoli which would be right handed or take the plunge and attempt a kit w a left flint via TVM. . .either are costly options. . so I am thinking out loud here.

Wow !!! As the old line in the 60's Bill Cosby record, Noah, and the skit for razors goes, "All I wanted was a clean shave, not a self sacrifice!"

I'm a lefty and shoot RH flintlocks with zero issues. One should NEVER see the flash from the pan either, as ALL your focus should be on the front sight.

Fact is, I've never seen the pan flash on my lefty flintlocks either ...

Same here, if you see the flash you are not keeping your eyes
on the sights. In other words you missed.

My first rifle was a right handed Issac Haines this was 1981 and had a full beard some times you would be singed but not often. Since then have added a few others to the crowd all are left handed rifles and smooth bores, much prefer the left handed flinters. Still have the Issac Haines my grand daughter is starting to hunt and shoot she will get the Haines. I definitely would suggest buying left handed guns if you are a left handed shooter.Sometimes these are a bit more expensive. I think its a excuse for a price increase but to me well worth it.God only made a few of us perfect the rest of the folks are right handed. :) AN APPALACHIAN HUNTER

of m y6 fintrs two are right handed. an accidental discharge (cockingthe piece caused a spark falling into the pan ) gave me a right bicep tattoo. Hank
this wil be m yfian psto nthe Foru after m ysecond heartattakc m ykids convinced me to move to an assisted living facility;yu that is not second amendment friendly farewell brothrs
Hank

That's good to remember, that an accidental spark is possible when cocking a right flint as a left hander is a bit less steady.

Sorry to hear you've moved . . . hope its a nice place and that you can still enjoy some hobbies away from the assisted living place. We are all headed there, sooner or later. . .I guess.

Rt handed, left eyed. Shoot a right flint and no problems.

Bye Hank....hope they visit ya OFTEN! My pop spent 2-3 months in nursing home and I visited 1-2 times a day every day but one.

First flinters I ever fired were all RH. 40 years later I finally have a couple of LH flinters. I also have a RH musket and am assembling parts to build another RH smoothbore. Either way doesn't bother me.

Lh shooter have lh flinters. Just got a rh flint. Question is, off hand shooting, which hand do you prime the pan with? Lh flint I use lh with rh holding the forearm and butt stock resting on my left hip.

If I prime with my lh on a rh flint the lock/frizzen seems to get in the way and the touchhole points more towards my face.

Not trying to steal the thread but thought it was kinda related.
