Just wondering if any T/C .54 New Englander shooters out there have changed out their factory sights? If so, what do you use? I'm having some problems with my rear sight. The windage adjustment moves by itself, it's very loose.
Thanks

I would go with some fixed sights. I put a set of california sights in from Dixie Gun Works and they worked great. I just cleaned up the metal with a file, blued them, and installed them. The front sight I taped in with a brass punch, and the rear one just screw in with the factory screws. Gives the gun a much more tradional look.

I bought mine from a list member. It came with the TC hunting peep sight already installed. The peep sight works wonderfully with my old eyes.

I put williams Firesights on my New Englander. Not very PC on a Not Very PC rifle but it sure works in the Dark Woods on Deer.

bought a hawkins in 72 didnt like the box sights so i dovetailed the barrel and installed a leaf sight off an old 22 works and looks great,,, :hmm: :hmm: :hmm:

Gunsmoke TC sights noted for moving, we sealed them with clear nail polish. Dilly

I put a TC peep on my New Englander when I first got it in '94. I too have vision that is improved by the use of a peep. I have not needed to change the point of aim in twelve years.

I like the T/C Hunting Style Tang Peep. I never have cared for the early T/C open rear sight, and have upgraded some of my T/C ML's to the peep. If you go the peep sight route, the T/C Peep for the New Englander, is different than the one for the Renegades, and Hawkens. The one you want is for a round barrel. T/C part # 7197. This sight is hard to come by at many suppliers. They usually stock only the Renegade, Hawken sight. It can be had from Fox Ridge Outfitter's though.

I have on of those Peeps that fit the round barrell.I no longer want it.Look for it when the classifieds are up and running.

:hmm: Hope that didn't sound like an ad. :hmm:

I sure appreciate all of the input. I have started to look for another sight, possibly a peep sight as mentioned. I cannot seem to find one for the round barrel T/C. Williams Gunsight is only about an hour drive from here. Might go see what the Firesights look like. Also still trying to find the shotgun barrel for it! :cursing:

you can get the shotgun barrel from http://www.foxridgeoutfitters.com

I run the original stock open sights on mine. Any rear sights that fit the Contender pistol or carbine or the Renegade (likely other T/C) will also fit the New Englander. They do have to be matched to the front sight height, though.
