I'm looking into building either a heavy dragoon from TRS (yes I found one in stock) or a light dragoon from Muzzleloader Builders' Supply either way they will be a .60 something smoothbore with no sights. what kind of accuracy do you guys get from them?

If PC is your game definately get the TRS one, I found a set of lock castings I want in stock also, Im seding orderform and payment to them next week and asking for payment conformation, I believe that puts a bit of fire under a company's rump so to speak, it adds documentation that way you can argue it if the need arises.

What kind of accuracy? Minute of big box.
More specifically I would say that holding a 16 inch group at 25 yards would be pretty good.

IMO, without a front sight it is rather difficult to really talk about accuracy. At least I have problems trying to get a "accurate" group when shooting my Pedersoli Queen Anne. This is true even though I am eyeballing down the top of the barrel.

I think that shooting my smooth bore Queen Anne is more of a "point and shoot" proposition rather than an aiming one. My accuracy is about the same using this method.

To me, this is not to be unexpected.
These pistols were designed for close quarters defensive use with a man sized target. You see him, you point and squeeze the trigger.
While the smoke is clearing you reverse the gun in your hand and use it as a club assuming that your shot didn't stop him.
At least that's the way I see using them. :)

I have shot those style pistols and they are for close in fighting and any kind of material can be used as a projectale ie nails, glass, pebbles, buck shot. They were the early version of a trench gun.

I've thought about buying an extra barrel and putting sights on it but boy that would be alot of fitting work.

I have the 1750 model tower/drgoon pistol in .67cal. With a RB i can hit a man sized target out to 20 yards, I point it at beltbuckle level and let fly, generaly hits the upper torso about 16" above point of aim. With a load of 9 00 buckshot it will put 6-9 in the target at 20 feet.
Not a target gun, but fun to shoot. I use 35gr of 3F.

Exactly so. Usually shooting downwards from the back of a horse.

I've always wanted one and I think I'm going to go ahead and spend the extra money on the TRS heavy dragoon, since I have a way of building or buying something and picking in it apart when I see something more correct. what is the availability of .66cal moulds, is this 16ga? I'm afraid if I go with the .62 model it'll be too heavy.
