I purchased and built the Traditions Kentuckey pistol. I was very happy with the quality of the kit and it shoots very well. I now wish I had purchased the trapper instead. I really like the double set trigger.

I purchased my kit at sportsmans werehouse for $119 and the trapper is sold in a kit for $155.

Midsouth used to be the cheapest, dont know today.
the spur on the gripcan be a hinderance, but once you figure out a grip and repeat it time and again, these trappers will/can group 10 shots inside of 3 inches at 35 yards consistantly, with the right load! mine does.
get it sighted in, put a reference mark for the rear sight, as they DO move and shoot away.
mine seems partial to 15 to 18 gr 3F black and an .015 patch, my 490 rd actually cast out at .4925.

I am a big believer that the accuracy potential from these will come from developing the right grip!
looking back, it was money well spent!
and at 15 grains, your wife should have no problems or complaints!

One of my first pistols I got was a trapper. Its ok. If its the price your worried about then go for it. It does the job and being my first, I learned alot form it. Yes I still have it and wont get rid of it. If its quality your wanting or doing primative camping, you want then try something else.

I owne and shoot one, have taken a doe with it. A bit awkward to hold but making from a kit could shape the handle to fit the hand of the shooter. Shoots good, accurate imo.

Thanks All for the input, The wife also likes the look of the Kentuckey pistol. So I'll do some lookin' around. She's a new shooter so the grip might be a problem, but I like the ajustable sights and set triggers on the trapper, Plus I could use a good target pistol

I spent my colorado winter in my basement building the kentucky trappers kit, it came out better then I thought it could. It did take a little work to fit all the parts.

great kit good luck

I got a good deal on a finished one a while back.
It could use some lock tuning.
It is unwieldy, especially as I have some arthritis in my hands.

I've wondered about taking off 3 or 4 inches of the barrel.
Don't much like the looks of the grip, but They prolly are an asset with this piece.

DST can be a bit tricky with this combo for me.
Dang arthritis can be non existant for long periods of time and kick in out of nowhere sometimes.
Makes me be cautious.

I am building one, (percussion) from the kit for a friend right now.

I thinned down the stock quite a bit and it seems to be more comfortable.

You do have an interesting point, though, a couple inches off the barrel would't hurt.
