Thinking about trying one of the GM 38" 40cal drop in barrels on my TC for target shooting,I looked at one set up in a shop and liked the feel and sight radius, if you are shooting one of these or know someone who is,how are they shooting?....thanks in advance

In case this info might be helpful, I've got the 32" (33" with plug)...was too worried the 38" (39" with plug) would be too heavy in that tiny caliber for a whole range session, and certainly wouldn't want to still hunt with it for several hours.

I've found my 33" gets plenty heavy enough on a 50 shot range session and is extremely accurate, so in my case I'm glad I went with the 33".

I have to go along with Roundball on this. I went thru the same dilema. I went with the 32".
What a shooter! My scores have become much higher, CONSISTANTLY higher! trailwalks, you need a little more "ear" since the ball doesnt make as load of a "ping".
I dont think I would want 6 more inches of 15/16 steel out there!
anyways, roundball has at least 1 set up and Mine is a GM percussion on the TC stock, feel free to PM me with any questions you might have!
I have put about 300 rounds thru it and its now coming into its own!

I HAVE a gm, 40cal, 38" barrel on a t/c reng. It felt a little barrel heavy, added a 2 1/2# brass swiss type buttplate. Balance point is now at the barrel wedge. Glass bedded from rear of tang to front end of stock. Total weight almost 11#. Apatures front and rear. Feels a lot better to me.
Hope to get barrel wore in this week.

For me personally, a 38" barrel in 40 cal. would just be too heavy for offhand shooting, but if you have the upper body strength, that is great.

At the last shoot, the 2 shooters next to me had long barrel guns, one a flint and one a Hatfield. The ceiling was too low and they had to keep taking their guns from the loading bench to be able to clean and load them with their ram rods. Looked like a pain to me with the long barrels. After hitting the ceiling after so many times with the ramrod, I would not be happy.

Forget to add, 15/16 barrel in 1" reng stock.[ easier to glass bed] Low ceilings can be a small problem; however, I just lean rifle over just a little.
