Just wondering? I was told the Black MZ is the cat's meow and that Triple 7 and Blackhorn will work in pistols with really hot magnum caps and tuning the nipples even though they are 209 primer powders? curious I guess and always looking for something other than Pyrodex.

Thanks!

I shoot a lot of Black MZ. Sportsmans Warehouse price 9.99 a can. But, that's not why I use it. It shoots good, cleans up easy, and has very little fowling. According to manufacturer it must be packed tight. It gives excellent accuracy. I won the last shooting match using a long rifle with a Douglas barrel, cap lock, and Black MZ powder. I felt like I was cheating. I use it in all my cap lock pistols, and where it really shines, is in my .32 rifle. The bore is ruff, and regular black powder, leaves too much fowling, to enjoy shooting. With the Black MZ, I can just keep shooting, and not worry about fouling.

I use real black powder in all my flintlocks, and some of my large bore rifles.

Blackhorn powder needs 209 primer, to ignite. Not acceptable for traditional guns.

With Black MZ, being such a good deal, I see no need for Triple 7.

I have used every powder that you have mentioned, but now only use Goex real black and Black MZ.

I love triple 7 i use alot of it. Cleans with just water. And has very little fouling.

I would like to try Triple7 but my local shops don't carry it.

I think you are supposed to reduce charges a tiny bit with it.

What appeals to me about it is the what people say about how easy it cleans and it can give a little more power if you want or need it compared to other powders.

I currently use Goex black because of easier ignition. I do a couple of cans of pyrodex, but don't use it too much.

Reduce the amount of powder by 15% when using Triple 7.

Read Hodgdon's data and you'll see there is no need to reduce the charge for safety and that you will indeed get more velocity than many other powders, though it produces what both Swiss and Olde Eynsford does.

Watch Mr Beliveau's videos in which he shoots it through two ROAs with the 15% reduction and it still outpaces standard Goex by about 100 fps.

If you are just killing paper or time use what you want. If it is to be used for hunting you may want to consider it or the previous mentioned powders as they can produce well over 400 ft/lbs whereas the rest are left wanting.

In over 40 yrs of muzzle loading I had never used anything except Goex till here recently when I picked up some Black MZ and I would recommend it. Only real drawback is it's very course and you'll need a large dispenser to meter it from can/flask to measure. Other than that it's pretty good stuff imo. If I can hit squirrels in the head with it it's good enough for me.

Ok fellas that was what I was looking for, thanks for the honest on topic replies! I'm going to get a Triple seven just so I can say I did but just order 5 lbs. of Black MZ.

Thanks!
