"Arizona" and "Open Range" DVD's

Rec'd. my copy of 1940's 'Arizona' w/ Wm. Holden & Jean Arthur. Full of use of real, actual, 19th C. black powder guns: Hall Carbines, lots of stuff. (No repros back then much!) Also, re-watched the magnificent 'Open Range' Western; it's a fabulous morality tale as well as a rootin'-tootin' lots of shootin' Western. One thing that always bugged me about many Westerns, is how the "town folk" always cower in the face of evil until the hero weakens the bad guys, THEN they take action. The characters always say, "Ah cain't get killed, 'en mah familied be without support!" Anyway, the shootout at the climax of "3:10 From Yuma" is pretty good, too. May not be all muzzleloaders, but they are usin' seemingly real black powder! BTW, the character who shoots out the saloon mirror with the shotgun? There's lots of authentic black powder smoke hanging in the air afterwards, unlike many "B" Westerns that didn't like the film in the smoke. Gotta wonder about the art of movie making in the wake of the "Rust" accident. Saw a T-Shirt at a gun show that said, Guns Don't Kill People, Alec Baldwin Does! Not to make light of a true tragedy; sorry.

Yes, those two great actors and guys. Very fine movie plot; in the end, they all are going to stay at that town, settle down, and enjoy life. In the Russell Crow 3:10 From Yuma, the escort farmer uses a Colt ctg. conversion, and the really evil gang member with the proto-Confederate military style coat has a pair of Schofields.

I think the shootout scene in Open Range is one of the best movie gunfight scenes there is. Lots of misses. That's how I would envision it being in an old west gunfight.
Robert Duvall does a great movie cowboy.

Lots of Hollywood fake guns, but in a lot of old westren and historic stories you do get to see originals
