Killed my first black powder turkey this morning. I was a bit bummed that I hadn't finished my flintlock fowler for this years season but I didn't want to rush it and cobble it up so I dug out my old pedersoli 12 gauge. It had been collecting dust for the past 5 or 6 years but last week I dug it out and started working up a load. I found it liked 80 grs of 2 f under 1 1/2 oz of number five shot. Hit the woods at a little after daylight this morning to the sound of one already on the ground looking for a hen. I set up quickly behind some buck brush and started calling. A few min of calling and he appeared through an opening in the brush about 20 yards away. One shot and when the smoke cleared he had been cleanly dispatched. In the morning the forecast is a repeat of today so maybe with a little luck I might have another successful hunt.

Thanks for looking

Those Pedersolis certainly are classic muzzleloading side-by-sides (wish I still had my 10 ga.). That's a very nice gobbler...you done good :hatsoff:

Mighty fine going. :hatsoff:
Other things happening, I hadn't even paid attention to it being open turkey season yet. But, the turkeys have. Usually we have a lot in the yard daily. None for about past week. :(

Good job, nice bird and gun.

Remember to not bit down really hard on your meal, its not like store bought turkey, this one has pellets in it.

He weighed a little over 19 lbs. The weather was perfect. Cool with no wind and the smoke of black powder hanging in the air. Hoping to go again this week but we have a large cold front moving in tomorrow so we will have to see what that does to them.
