Was just up to Arrow Rock mo for a dog and poney show at the local meusem. Had an outstanding time, the town was very welcoming and I met a great bunch of guys. Sunday morning we got a tour of the first govenures mansion, saw some origanal Caleb Bringam paintings and then we made our way out in to a cornfield in the middle of nowhear. There a local farmer has several indian mounds on his land and dug on one was Ashleys grave. A bronze marker placed in the 1950s and a large sycamore is his only rememberence. Deer crossed across the field as we were hiking to it the lay of the land plesent. A good place to rest. I'm sure he has good company.

Forgive my ignorance but, Ashley who?

William Henry Ashley (1778-1838) Co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Fur Co. and "Ashley's Hundred", and developer of the rendezvous system for trappers.

He was also a veteran of the War of 1812, a gunpowder manufacturer (which made him a lot of money), and an explorer who helped open the West to expansion.

Not an area of history I am familiar with...so, thanks to tenngun and this thread for giving me the impetus to enlighten myself.
