I'm building a flintlock Bedford rifle with parts from TOTW. I bought their plans, but they don't show a screw in the back end of the trigger plate. The tang screw is threaded into the front of the trigger plate and holds it in real solid, but I'm wondering if I should put a wood screw into the back of the trigger plate. What would be correct for this rifle?

Another question as I am looking ahead. Do you usually install the patchbox before you do the carving on the comb side of the stock?

Yes,drill and countersink for a wood screw at the rear of the plate, the rear of the trigger guard usually hides it.

On the Bedford's I've done, and others, the carving is left untill most of the inletting is done. The area around the tang is tricky if you have both the wrap around inlay and carving.
Take your time and good luck.
