Hi Everybody!

I am the President of the Victorian Muzzle Loading Club (VMLC), which is an Approved Handgun Club, and as such is required (by State Law as of 2004) to provide an Annual Report to the Victorian Police. I have just finished the 2004 Report (being that I am the Nominated Officer).
The Report includes the following details:
1 - Member List, inc their status eg Handgun OR Social/longarm.
2 - A separate list for each Handgun mbr and details of every time they shot handgun with the VMLC in '04.
3 - A list of APPROVED & NON-APPROVED handgun competitions that the VMLC held in '04.
4 - A listing detailing each mbr that shot a handgun event on any day with the VMLC in '04.
From the above info, which the Victoria Police are now going to sift through, along with the reports from all the other Victorian handgun clubs, I think it is obvious for all of us to see that Australia is now a safer place to live!

Jim.

If your police are anything like those around here of course it's much safer. The police are off the streets and busy doing paperwork, not out shooting each other (Chicago PD), or getting killed by a co-worker whilst playing a car-jacking prank (State corrections officer).

Heh. And THEY'RE the ones that are allowed to own (and carry) firearms.

:RO: Geeezz! And I thought Canada had some restrictive gun laws! Remember..........When guns are outlawed only Outlaws will have guns ( and of course the police :: )

Mom always told me "If ya ain't got nothin good to say, it's better to say nottin at all". I guess this might be one of them times :hmm: So I ain't sayin nottin, but I gotta comment. :bull: :bull: :bull: ::

I guess I was under the impression thet all Austrailian citizens were disarmed. Its good to know that you can still shoot, but that is a lot of restrictions :curse:. It would be the same, or worse, here if some people had their way.
Lawmakers can make all the gun laws they want and it will only affect law-abiding citizens. Criminals dont obey laws anyway. It is exactly as Soggy said: when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. If I were a bad guy, I would prefer my prey to be disarmed. Much easier that way. :m2c:

They must really be worried in case you guys arm yourselves with Bess or worse, minie guns to overthrow your government. With news like that, I'm really encouraged to visit a safer, saner Australia.

Actually, I'd visit it anyway but have neither the time nor the ducats.

Gee Vic,

Annoyed at the police for some reason? Got a ticket lately or something?

I dispise gun control, but we seem to be jumping on the guys who are just doing the job. They do not create or define the system. If you want to fix the problem, work on the voters and politicians.

Sounds like something some little German Corporal would have come up with right before he disarmed everyone (except his own party's people) in Germany.

The catch is, because these laws will do nothing to reduce crime, they obviously are not strong enough!

Soon, it will be obvious that the officials must remove ALL weapons from the clubs to reduce crime.

After this too fails to reduce crime, the officials will blame it on smugglers and a lack of manpower and budget to stop the flow of illegal weapons.

The real irony is that having an armed population, does in fact, reduce violent crime as has been proven in those areas of the United States where "Concealed Carry" has been granted to the common citizen.

Ah, but I'm just preaching to the Choir.

Actually, I've got a fairly clean record so far :)

I suppose I was trying to be amusing because we've just had a couple of shootings by off-duty officers, and a few not-so-well-publicized "accidental" shootings, both gun and taser (it's ok, tasers load from the front) that could have/would have been avoided if they were otherwise occupied as the police in Aus seem to be.

Just to set the record straight... my idea of gun control is 5 shots in a quarter at 20 yards.

I figured a good scouter would have a clean record and would be one of the best of the good guys. Good to hear that is still true.

<<<my idea of gun control is 5 shots in a quarter at 20 yards.>>>

We agree totally on this point.

Up here in Charlevoix County Michigan, the Sheriff responded to a Journalist's question about crime with the County having over a thousand citizens with conceled weapons permits. His response was "LOOKS LIKE I HAVE A THOUSAND ADDITIONAL DEPUTIES" :RO: Postscript: thats almost 10 percent of the County
