backpack waterproofing

hey guys got a 3 pocket backpqck from godwin,,want to paint the back to waterproof it but was wondering about a recipe..i have heard use boiled linseed oil but i dont want a fire hazard on my back ..any help guys

milk paint ?

It isn't going to catch fire spontaneously....

Paint it with red Barn paint (essentially a modern version of the linseed oil/iron oxide paint).
