I saw an albino doe while hunting yesterday. That is the third or fourth time Have seen her between this season and last seaon. Last year I saw her with her button buck brother. This year he was a 5 point. I had no plans to shoot her though I could have but if her brother turns into a good buck next year, assuming he survived the rifle season, he would make a very tempting target. My buddies both say that shooting an albino is bad luck. I said I never heard that one before. Anybody else ever heard that? I say if he is a good buck worth shooting and I get the opportunity I will tempt fate.

gees maybe i ought have ya talk to lil bro... he shot one (white buck) then didn't kill a buck fer 7 years...the same number of years everyone told him was bad luck if ya kill a white deer... :hmm: but the dang hide is still really purdy and a good conversation piece... :winking: RC oh, he never regretted it..well he was unsure fer a few (7?) years....

It is absolutely true! If you shoot an Albino deer you will make the hunting gods angry. I make it my mission to tell all hunters of the bad luck and misfortune that comes from shooting a white deer. I figure that way, it increases my chances of seeing one so I can shoot it. :grin:

The doe is indeed albino. Not a speck off color on it and the eyes are pink as well. I don't know about the buck for sure. He is all white but I couldn't tell about the eyes on him. I saw another doe in a different place a few years back that was pure white but with dark eyes and hooves.
I've heard that before.
Here in Illinois it would be bad luck 'cause it's illegal. Elsewhere it would prolly be bad luck 'cause of all them people who would hate yer guts fer shootin' "their" white deer. I heard of one guy who shot a nice white buck and got actual death threats from people. :youcrazy: :shake:
If you ever do shoot it. I'd suggest keepin' it quiet.

Oh hell I've gotten death threats from shootin a regular ole normal brown one. We are surrounded by Friends of animals and Peta wackos up here. :shake:

then why shoot it? like the guy round here,shot a hugh buck,in august,still in velvet,out'a season..who's he gonna tell,ya can't "show it off" never understood that part..must be jes killin fer killin? why? can't shoot albinos? or white deer? gees seeing 3 points on one side is hard enough,waitin till ya see if their eyes is pink???? well it's save a bunch! Well, here is my diatribe on luck. Luck is like any other superstition. It is basically the reason applied to a chance. In our past, scientific knowledge was limited and if something good or bad happened, it was ascribed to some supernatural force.
I would shoot the deer if given the opportunity. You are hunting with a handicapped weapon to begin with and then at the end of the season when there are fewer deer and the survivors are much more wary.
You see it, and it is legal, shoot.

A couple years ago I bought my wife a puppy for Christmas. When we went to pick it up, the neighbor had a white buck hanging in his yard. The lady we got the pup from was part Native American and was upset he shot the deer, she hunted, so it was'nt that, she said in her culture it was considered wrong to shoot a white deer, it was some sort of omen. Supposedly people had been seeing the buck and she was telling everyone to leave it alone. She was dead serious about this too.
