I'm in the process of building my second shooting bag (a little more complex than my first) and want to install a gusseted seam and some fringe along the bottom.
I've looked at several photos of original bags and it appears that the fringe is the same piece as the welt sewn in the bottom seam - is this correct? And is it better to cut the fringing after the bag gusset is sewn together?
My other issue deals with covering the raw edge of the bag flap. Should the leather strip that wraps around the edge of flap be cut on the same contour as the flap itself or will just a straight piece of edging work? My thought is if it is a straight cut piece then the strip will pucker around the curve when being sewn.
I'm using Albert's Hunting Pouch book for reference and the photos on pg. 105-106 illustrate the fringe and flap edging I'm trying to achieve.
Any tips will help. Thanks in advance.
