Made this up over the last couple days.

Elk antler, cherry, ebony, ivory, and brass.

6 1/4" overall length, with a seating depth of 3 1/2", and just at 1 5/8" at the widest point.

There are a few mistakes that were made as well as a bit of overkill on the inlays, but it was fun.

This one will go to my eldest kid and I'll make another for me.

Enjoy the picks

Nice, but a little tip.
It's nice to have a perminate muzzle protecting cone installed, one that's fit between the ball end and the handle on a slightly narrower shaft than the ball end so it stays put,
Know what I mean?

Like this, that was a 3/8" brass rod.
It's set-up for .535 ball.
(Custom job by a feller that goes by 45man)
Those ball cup's have been shaped after the ball mill end to accept a 535 ball. He used Valve compound and 5-ball to get the proper size.
You can drive a ball and it leaves no mark.

necchie, .. No offense, but I like AB short starter better and with it made of brass, you would have to load a few hundred thousand balls to show much wear, if any on the muzzle!

Rick

Well his is alot purtier than mine, that's fer sure,
I just offered an idea, an a photo does it better than me tryin to explain,
if AB see's it an it sparks an idea, I'm sure anything like it he'd make would look like it belongs there

Thanks for the compliments, comments, and ideas for some future projects.

The shaft on this thing was turned to just a hair under .400, then it was turned smaller just behind the ball cup to allow for the patch to bunch up. The ball cup was made will a 1/2" burr, I don't really care for the finish and will be picking up some ball end mills today to facilitate some different size starters.

Originally I built this for me because I have all but destroyed mine ( will get pics up later ), but when the kid seen it and the eyes lit up I knew where it was going.

Will look into the muzzle protector thingy, but at the moment I just don't see the advantage for me. If I was to make a starter for somebody else and they had to have one I would find a way to accomodate.

Again,

Really Appreciate the Compliments

Yup,

Will set aside some material and get it going once I get things caught up round here.

Now I really like that! As for the overkill its just "finer than the hair on frogs legs"!  :hatsoff:

Why is it that Cherry looks good on everything?
Fancy turnings!
Keep sending pic's..Thanks AB!

Thanks Chance,

I'll be making up a few more in the coming weeks, I will change up the configuration a bit as they progress and see what the crowd thinks.
