I understand that the original Lemat revolvers were chambered for 42 caliber ball a rather odd caliber. The new replicas are 44 caliber to eliminate the inconvenience of a non-standard load. But does anyone have any information of the original 42 caliber load? Actual diameter used, standard powder charge, muzzle velocity, ft-lbs muzzle energy, pine board penetration?

And to add to that what about the same info for the new 44 replicas? Just kind of curious about this odd Civil War gun.

I haven't chrono'd the .40 and .41 revolvers yet, not that they'd be representative of the Lemat diameters, powder capacities or barrel lengths.
Did people shoot pointy war bullets in the Lemat?

They were produced in 36/28g and 42/16g. 25gn in 44 repro was pretty max or the ball would not ram flush. A bit less for conicals. Couldn't find at this time the charge in 36. Base accurate range 40 yards. The now 20g was 30gn and 6, 00 buck. Othe sizes per the weight of the 6, 00s. I had a link to an archived forum but seemed to have lost it. If I find it or remember name I'll post it.
