Okay, I need some help. Last year I shot a buck with a Hornady FTX boredriver at 290 grains at about thirty yards with a CVA optima and was not impressed with the performance of the projectile. Pass through with little to no expansion. This year I shot an 8 pointer at 165 yards with a Barnes 250 grain spitfire saboted tmz projectile and had great results. I recently upgrade to a CVA LRX .50 and after reading the manual they do not recommend a saboted bullet especially if you plan on using a muzzle brake which I do intend on using. I am leaning towards the Hornady FTX but I am concerned about past performance, I am not sure if this was a result of being an extremely close shot or if a monometal bullet such as the Barnes has better terminal performance than the Hornady.
