Oatsayo,
Does anyone have a contact for the woods coning tool?

Have you ever coned by hand?

Tsegoweleh - Contact Joe Woods at [email protected] for an info sheet on his coning tools. They are caliber specific and are $42 each. His procedure is straight forward and takes about an hour or two to complete with excellent results, IMO, all done by hand and readily available household tools.

Oatsayo All,
Thank you for the link. Ill give him a call.

What i ment by Hand coning was with a file. Sorry.

Tseg,
what's up dude? i can definitely recommend coning your barrel w/joe woods tool. losing that short starter is another plus!

hope yer well. im itchin to trek! still snow everywhere (above 6000')
later,

I've coned 4 50cal barrels with Joe's tool, and it was easy. The guns all shoot ecellent and load easy. My wife just bought me the tool for a .54, Joe is the nicest guy to deal with!

Useing just a file is a crapshoot as to keeping things centered I would think, some hand file parts of a bore to change trajecory on cmoothbores.

Anyone care to post pictures of their coning?

widget350, I coned the muzzle of my Pedersoli "Pennsyltucky" flinter about two years ago. I was apprehensive about doing it at first but after the job was finished I never regretted it for a moment.

Here is a picture for you. As you can see, the rifling is non-existent at the muzzle, but accuracy was unaffected. The rifle sure is easier to load now however, using a .440 cast ball and .015" patch.

Joe Wood is a great guy to deal with. I wish he was my back-fence neighbor.
