This question has probably been answered before, but here goes. I am finishing a in-the-white canoe gun for my wife and I want the barrel to have that grey old patina look. How do I achieve this? I have a couple of finished guns that look this way, but don't know how they do this. I seem to remember a post on here once about using fruit slices to dull the metal? Thanks in advance to all replies. ::

One way is to apply common naval jelly to it. Another is muriatic acid, pool acid. Both need to be thoroughly washed off, and the metal then needs oil or wax.

Let it rust and scrub that back.
Apply some Cold Blue and then buff that back with 000 steel wool.
Coat the barrel with mustard and it will grey overnight.
I've heard rubbing down with potatoes will work?
Anything with some acid in it will turn the metal grey.
