When fitting the barrel lug to the forend wedge does one thin the barrel lug to fit the barrel slot rather than widening the slot in the barrel?

Best to file the lug to fit. You don't want to mess up the dovetail.

Don't file too much at once. File, fit, repeat. You want it to be tight fitting, not loose.
I'm assuming you're doing a kit?
You'll probably find that the sights will need fitting as well.

There’s a lot to consider first. What rifle, how’s the fit with out escutcheons, how thick is the barrel loop and is the wedge straight?
