I am in the planning stages on building a wheel lock carbine, based on a 115cm long, 14mm bore cheek stock carbine used by a polish hussar.

As the gun when finished would be so small that the barrel would be roughly 24-26 inches at best, would it be usable for deer hunting?

jim chambers makes a 12 1/2 inch barreled .54 cal that is supposed to be long enough to fit deer hunting regulations in some states.. he may be able to give you some more details, i dont know.. but its supposed to have the power for deer.. i think it was wild bill hickock that used .36 cal six shooters and could hit a man in the heart at 50 yards.. and he did in quite a number of rivals.. so if you hit the critter in the correct spot it should do the job.. it seems it would take quite a bit of expertice to get it to shoot in that spot tho.. if its ignition is slow its very hard (for me) to manage a bp flintlock gun with lag when concentrating on a deer and sights... a well set up rifle with fast lock cured this problem for me.. dave
