Hi:

A new-to-me LH’d light 40-cal of 46” swamped barrel ‘Shimmel’ (barn gun; simple, no butt plate or side plate or entry thimble/ramrod pipe) with round bottom grooves, and a single trigger (sweetest I’ve ever touched off) setup.

Has anyone seen this barrel ID before? I presume the ‘R’ with ‘40’ denotes the caliber and rifling cut? I know ‘1.48’ is the twist.

Has anyone also ever heard of the maker? I think - from an online search, that ‘Wbg’ might be Warrensburg, Missouri. I’d appreciate any input, thanks!

Hi Flint

Great looking rifle !!!! Even if the lock is on the wrong side. LOL It appears the gun was made by one Rick Love. And Warrensburg, MO seems like a good guess. There was a Rick Love in Warrensburg that passed away in 2018, per the Internet. But can't find any connection to him and gun building.
But here's someone who might be able to offer a clue (?) Larry lives about an hour outside of me in St. Louis. By coincidence, he also owns a rifle with a 46" by .40 Rice barrel in an A weight. I know, I shouldered it one time while visiting. Maybe Larry knew a Rick Love ?

By the way, the flint knapper he sells works great. LOL

Although it didn't stamp fully that cursive R after the AP means it is a rice barrel and they are excellent barrels.
