Bear season is opening here Sept 4. We have been baiting for about a month now and we are getting good sign and preaty regular visitation
I've never been much of a bear hunter but this year there have been so many bears and heavy fawn depredation, we havent seen a fawn were we hunt all summer, and there is usualy two or three does with twins.
Well I'm hopeing to blood my .54 flint G.P.R. on a bruin. We have our tree stands about 30 yrds to the south east of or bait.
I'll keep you all informed. F.K.

what do you use for your bait??
a buddy of mine in burks falls is using bacon grease and old donuts. he's about three km from the dump, and its very effective!

Good luck, wish I was going with you. Hunting bear with my muzzle loader is one of my dream hunts, along with buffalo. Do post pictures.

We have a butcher who saves the scrapps for us, and another friend who has cattle so we have hung a coupla cow heads in the trees that the barrels are atached to. I tell ya you don't want to be down wind after a few days.
Thanks for the incurragment, F.K.

Hey, this sounds like a lot of fun and be sure to keep us up to date on how you did. If you have never hunted bear before, just 2 words of unsolicited advise - practice reloading. They are decent critters and tough. Be ready for the necessity of follow-up shots under pressure. And best of hunting to you  .
