Hello there everyone. I am new to the world of black powder muzzle loaders, and I am intending to purchase a Lyman Stainless Deerstalker in .54 calibre. What I am wanting to know is what other accesories I need to get going in this side of the sport, for example powder measures and so on? :thanks:

Well, basically you're going to need stuff that allows you to shoot the gun and keep it clean. Here's a start list:

Powder
Powder Horn
Roundball/Conicals
Lube and Patching (if shooting roundball)
Caps/Flints (based on ignition type)
Capper (if percussion)
Powder Measure
Cleaning Jag
Patch Worm
Cleaning Patches
Spare Nipple/Vent Liner
Short Start (if needed/wanted)
Possible Bag to carry all of the above

I probably missed something, but you could definitely shoot with what's listed. Good luck with the new gun!

I would add a patch knife, a ball-puller screwtip and if a flintlock, a vent pick. Eventually you will want other stuff, but these will get you started.

I am on my first ml rifle to.A cva bobcat. My gear to date is this.Brass powder adjustable measure,Ball puller and nessicary mantanince gear and old pill bottle's to hold premeasured charges.I still use the can as my powder horne as I am waiting for my PC gun to get here and then I will perchas my pther pc gear.

Thanks people, much appreciated. I am a reasonably experienced centrefire smokeless shooter, and I kind of assumed I just needed some BP muzzle loader equivalent gear, but I didn't want to assume. I want to use the rifle for hunting in the main, though participation in BP events may naturally follow!
