I have had minor problems with my lower barrel going off after it has been reloaded.
I follow the same procedure that I have used for years on my percussion rifles -- firing a cap on the empty barrel before the initial load to clear all the grease and manure out of the flash hole. I swab between shots as well. I found that the lower barrel sometimes wouldn't fire UNLESS I snapped a cap on it after swabbing but before reloading again. It appears that that long flash tube can get enough crud in it from swabbing to plug up. Snapping a cap on it seems to clean it out.
My only concern with that "damned berretter" (with apologies to Bernard Lee :
has been that skinny ramrod. I know that I'm going to break it sooner or later. I contacted Beretta about a replacement, and they were less than helpful. I guess that they have so many customers already that they don't feel the need to ever sell me ANY firearm.

Just have to watch for them elsewhere, but hard to find.

You got to watch you don't break the stock right at the back end of the barrels. It looks just like the one I fixed for a guy back in '89 or '90. I thought I should put as hefty pins thru the break as I could to shore it up, but the owner wanted me to just glue it. He broke it again next time out. The stock just isn't real fixable once you break it.

I have 2 of the Beretta's that I currently use for skeet and sporting clays shooting and bird hunting. I can honestly say that I've never had an issue with it NOT firing the bottom barrel. I shoot 2-3 times a week and 50-75 rounds each time. I don't wipe until I've shot a complete round.
The only thing that bothers me (but I fixed it) was the flash from the cap on the left side. Now I wear a wrist cuff.
I also had an ASM over-under. It was a reproduction "kit" sold by Armi SanMarco. I sold that firearm to a fellow at a local hunting club and he used it for bunny and pheasant hunting. He loves the thing.
As far as the ramrod breaking, I use a range rod so I've never had a problem there.
I took one to Katy, Texas, for sandhill crane hunting with the BlackPowder Waterfowlers. Unfortunitly the cranes were 75-100 yds away and I we never got a shot.

A friend of mine has had a terrible time with getting the bottom barrel to go of regularly. We have had the flash channel enlarged (nipple & bolster), cleaned thoroughly and nothing seems to work. The cup on the hammer is large enough to fit over a musket cap, so last week I ordered him a pair of nipples that take a musket cap but have smaller non-musket threads that are supposed to fit Italian sporting guns. I got them in the mail today from Dixie, and will try them this weekend. I will report back next week on how well the musket nipples work.-smoothshooter-

Jump on it if it's a good price. I have been shooting one (and my father in law has one) for over ten years. Fine shootin irons! Never had a problem. By the way, I am an avid duck hunter and trap shooter. I don't know if that will sway your decision, but I can offer no faults.

I built the ASM kit version. I never had problems with bottom barrel ignition, but the locks were not that great. One could be fired off half cock.
The barrel walls were on thin side for a 12 ga. so I kept the loads moderate. Patterns were ok for cylinder bores. The ramrod was the diameter of a toothpick. I turned it into a nifty buck and ball gun. Turtle front sight blade, simple leaf
rear sight in an old TC primitive rear sight base
epoxied to the barrel. The barrels put patched
round balls within 2 inches of each other and grouped rather well for a smoothie. I played with buckshot a bit but since I'd never use it for hunting, I didn't go very far with it.
