I took my Bess out and shot trap with it today. The shoot was at McFarland, Wi. just out of Madison. It was put together to have fun and we all did. I did not hit all of the trap but enough do it again. I was wondering any of you get together and shoot trap with your smoothbores. Mark

Oh, yes, Mark.
I have been shooting trap with my smoothbore since 1992. It is a lot of fun. It just doesn't get any better than flinter smoothbore and shooting the clay birds and rabbits. :hatsoff: :applause:

I tried skeet but not the full trap course with a 16 bore Bess (Light Infantry fusil) and was not up to the task (how did you fire the doubles?!?) But then I was using #6 instead of a finer shot. Never did kill a grouse with it, either, but not for lack of flushes or trying. I have a LOT better luck with my lighter, shorter, faster 12 bore percussion.

Every one shooting was using a muzzle loader of some type. There were Fowler's, double barrels, and muskets, capers and flint. We have 4 or 5 of these shoots a year. What you do is shoot and reload, than go back up. It is not as fast as reg.
trap but it works out fine. Wisconsin State Muzzleloaders has rules set up that we follow and it works out.
I was using reclaim #7.5 & #8 It mostly to get togther and shoot and have some fun, which we all did. Mark
