It has been a while since I have done any browning so I am rusty on the proceedure to remove it. Do they make a browning remover? What is the best way to take browning off of a barrel?

I believe you are going to have to take it off with emory cloth/wheel/file or etc...Browning is accelerated rusting of the metal and depending on how long it was let go before neutralizing it could be more than 'skin deep'.

That's what I was afraid of...

There is something else, and it escapes me now. The "patina" look I like is a series of brownings and cardings to make a dark gray, lightly pitted surface.

I don't mind the patina look so much on the barrel, but there is some splash of the browning on the lock; that is the part I would like to remove. I guess I could hit it with a brass brush on my dremel. I have had luck with that in the past. It removes the blemish and kind of buffs the surface.

I would prefer just to remove it without having to sand or buff it off. Perhaps the remover you posted a picture of might work. Hmmmm... :hmm:

I have used Brownell's Steel White to remove blueing and rust from firearms prior to starting a rust blue finish. It might work for removing browning as well. :m2c:
